Freddie Mercury Receives Tribute as World Marks What Would Have Been His 77th Birthday

Freddie Mercury's colleagues and fans still have the same burning love and respect for the late Queen frontman decades after his death.

Mercury's life and career are being remembered decades after his death as the world marks his what would have been 77th birthday. The singer's ex-fianceé, Mary Austin, will also auction off his personal belongings through the Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own auction happening on Wednesday.

Fans Greet Freddie Mercury on What Would Have Been His 77th Birthday

On X, Mercury's name is dominating the platform as musicians, celebrities and fans deliver their birthday messages to the late musician. Others also shared art for the late frontman, while some uploaded photo collages of Mercury.

One wrote, "okay but imagine giving freddie mercury yellow flowers for his birthday while telling him how absolutely beautiful, amazing and talented he is while seeing this smile as his reaction."

"Happy heavenly Birthday Freddie Mercury," one penned. "So many years you went to heaven and left ones of the best things in the world, music with full of soul and life. You'll always be the best frontman and musician. We still love you, always."

Elton John, who became one of Mercury's closest friends in the industry, penned a lengthy statement as he looked back at the life of his "kind, generous and funny" pal.

"I miss Freddie to this day," the singer said. "He was a wonderful friend - more full of love and life than anyone I've ever met - as well as a brilliant performer whose music has inspired and thrilled millions."

John also expressed his gratitude to Austin for choosing his foundation as the recipient of the proceeds from his gift to the late singer. According to the "Rocket Man" hitmaker, the amount will help him and his foundation in continuing its fight against AIDS across the globe.

Freddie Mercury Left Most of Everything He Had to Mary Austin

Before taking his last breath, Mercury ensured that Austin would get the most from his belongings and fortunes. He divided everything he had among his loved ones, including his ex-fianceé, his sister Kashimira Bulsara and his parents.

In one of his final interviews, the "Bohemian Rhapsody" hitmaker said he considered Austin the love of his life and his common-law wife even after they broke up.
