Steve Harwell Dead: Smash Mouth Remaining Members Banned From Saying Goodbye Due To This

Though they wanted to, the members of Smash Mouth were unable to bid a proper farewell to Steve Harwell as he entered hospice care and eventually died.

This disheartening was due to his wishes not to have visitors.

In a statement to TMZ, Robert Hayes - manager of a renowned rock band - revealed that Steve had requested for his last days to be spent in solitude. He preferred to not have many visitors at his residence in Boise, Idaho.

At the time of Steve Harwell's death, only those closest to him - his family, his fiancée and her relatives, as well as his manager - were allowed to visit him.

Unfortunately, the remaining members of Smash Mouth were not able to be present during that difficult time; however, their manager assured the outlet that they still held an amicable relationship with him until the end.

They reached out through phone calls to express their good wishes for Steve's journey onwards.

On Monday, the world lost a beloved alternative rock star - Smash Mouth's lead singer, 56-year-old Steven Harwell. He was best known for his cheerful pop hit "All-Star," which remains a classic today.

It was released by Smash Mouth's manager that Steve Harwell had passed away at his home in Boise, Idaho.

Reports from TMZ revealed he was battling liver failure and had been placed in hospice care shortly before his death.

In 2021, due to health complications, Steve Harwell retired from Smash Mouth.

Steve announced during that time, "I've tried so hard to power through my physical and mental health issues and to play in front of you one last time, but I just wasn't able to."

After hosting a show upstate New York, it was clear that Steve needed to retire.

Reports claim that he slurred his words, was hostile towards audience members, and made an apparent Nazi salute to those attending.

The spokesperson for the group revealed that time that Steve had been struggling with addiction for many years, impacting his health both physically and mentally. He was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which weakens the heart's ability to move blood throughout the body, as well as Wernicke's encephalopathy causing him difficulty with movement such as speech and hindered his ability to remember.

Since the band's formation in 1994, Steve Harwell has served as front man for Smash Mouth.

With a blend of old-school musical stylings and ska-punk elements, the group stands out with their catchy pop songs delivered with just the right amount of sarcasm - as evidenced by the 1997s hit "Walkin' on the Sun" and 1999s iconic "All Star", which became an instant classic.
