After Facebook and Instagram, TikTok is arguably the biggest social media platform in the world. In the past few months and years, the platform has helped launch and even revive music to popularity. Now, Billboard has partnered with the social media platform for the inaugural release of the Billboard TikTok Top 50 chart.
Sexyy Redd becomes the first artist to top the said chart with "SkeeYee."
Billboard TikTok Chart Explained
On Sep. 14, Billboard and TikTok announced their joint partnership by releasing the inaugural Billboard TikTok Top 50 chart. The said charts monitor the popularity of music on the said platform. Per the publication, it ranks the said songs in the combination of creations, video views, and even user engagement on the said week.
The Billboard TikTok Top 50 Chart shall be released every Thursday starting this week from point forward.
"TikTok is already the world's most powerful platform for music discovery and promotion, and each week our passionate community of music fans drives songs onto the Billboard charts," TikTok Music Business Development Global Head Ole Obermann said in a statement.
Because of this growing demand, the two entities thought that it "made perfect sense" to collaborate and release the Billboard TikTok Top 50 Chart.
"At Billboard, we are constantly evolving our charts to reflect how fans engage with music and connect them more deeply with the artists they love. We see a clear opportunity to recognize the way music discovery on TikTok is shaping popular culture and are proud to offer this tool to the industry, while offering brands a new way to engage with music fans at scale. You're not No. 1 until you're No. 1 on Billboard," Billboard President Mike Van said.
Sexyy Redd Tops Billboard TikTok Chart, Doja Cat At #2
On the first-ever Billboard TikTok Chart, Sexyy Redd's "SkeeYee" leads the Top 50 songs of the week. It ranked No. 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Meanwhile, The Hot 100 leader "Paint The Town Red" by Doja Cat is currently No. 2 on the Billboard TikTok Chart. Taylor Swift's "August" stands at No. 3.
The "Teen Titans Go!" theme song is at No. 4, while Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgrave's former Hot 100 leader is at No. 5. Ice Spice's "Deli" debuts at No. 6 on the charts.
