Liam Payne has been open about his struggles during his time with One Direction, but the break with the boy band also took a toll on his health.
The former One Direction member recently sparked concerns after reports that he was hospitalized for emerged. He was on a trip to Lake Como, Italy, with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy when he suddenly suffered a sharp pain.
His recent struggle and health issue led his friends to finally speak up about the musician's secret struggles after One Direction announced its hiatus.
Liam Payne Struggled Outside One Direction
After Payne revealed that his time with One Direction left him with pain and scars, his friends also opened up about the effects of the absence of the band.
One of his pals told The Sun that his recent hospitalization was not a huge surprise since his lifestyle has reportedly been in a downward spiral for a while.
"Liam struggled so much in the band due to the heavy workload and being in the spotlight," a friend said. "His partying since the band's break could well be a reaction to this."
The same source noted that Payne and his bandmates were kept in a bubble while promoting as a band. Although the restrictions took a toll on their mental health, the freedom did the same to the singer afterward.
The comment came after the outlet also confirmed that the "Bedroom Floor" singer was rushed to a hospital via ambulance, where he is receiving treatment for an undisclosed issue. He previously revealed that he was suffering a serious kidney infection that led him to cancel his first solo tour.

Liam Payne on "Pain and Scars" One Direction Caused
Previously, Payne spoke candidly about his boy band days in an interview on Columbia's W Radio, saying that his time with One Direction left scars on him.
"You have to unpack a lot of stuff before you start this job," he said. "I wouldn't change a thing now that I am where I am, I've kind of made my own sense of why I ended up at this place."
Payne went through different issues over the past few months, with one instance leading him to check himself into a rehabilitation facility in Louisiana for 100 days.
