Upon turning 20, Olivia Rodrigo experienced sadness as she realized how much of her childhood had been spent at work. Is the singer regretting her music career?

When the "Drivers License" singer turned 20 in February, she realized she had missed out on a lot of important things, and she got overcome with sadness, she revealed to The Guardian.

She said it suddenly dawned on her that she worked all through her childhood and she'll never get it back.

She added that she didn't hang out with a bunch of lady friends after school or attend football games. Thinking about it makes her feels depressed.

The singer only recently departed the Disney Channel following three seasons of "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series".

The singer originally appeared on the network when she was twelve years old, with the 2016 TV series Bizaardvark.

Granted "such an amazing opportunity" by Disney, she acknowledges that being a child star was "really hard" at times.

"I think it's an interesting situation to be so young working at that level. It's really easy to feel trivialised or not taken seriously," she shared. "It's just really hard to be a kid and an actor, and you can feel maybe a little taken advantage of sometimes. The responsibility, feeling criticised in public, feeling like you have to work so much and you see your friends who can go to pool parties and hang out, and you're stuck on set... (But) I wouldn't have it any other way."

The popular song "Good 4 U" singer is also happy that, once her music career took off, she was allowed to leave the High School Musical series early.

"I definitely felt how stressful it was to have two full-time jobs - songwriting and acting - and to do them both well," she added in an email. "I always knew I wanted to pursue music and focus on songwriting, but at that time it proved difficult to balance both obligations."

After her 2021 breakthrough single "Sour," Olivia Rodrigo's sophomore album Guts makes its debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart (dated September 23). This is the singer-songwriter's second No. 1 album. Luminate reports that the new album began with 302,000 equivalent album units achieved in the United States for the week ending September 14.

That is Rodrigo's biggest week to date and the fourth-largest week for any album in 2023. Rodrigo is the first female artist to start at the top of the chart with two initial chart entries in nine years, with both Sour and Guts having debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The latest female to debut at No. 1 with two initial chart entries was Ariana Grande, who did so with her songs Yours Truly (2013) and My Everything (2014).
