In a statement shared by Page Six, Jonas' representative branded Turner's lawsuit a "harsh legal position" that contradicts their desire to have "amicable co-parenting setup" amid their divorce.

The representative added that the estranged couple met over the weekend to discuss the custody, leaving Jonas with a belief that they were working on the dissolution of their marriage smoothly.

"Less than 24 hours later, Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK," the spokesperson said. "Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children's passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately."

It added that Jonas and Turner's kids have been with the actress in New York since the meeting wrapped up.

The representative further explained that Jonas is seeking shared parenting and is okay with raising them both in the U.S. and the U.K. Their two children are American citizens as they were born in the U.S.

Jonas, through his spokesperson, hit back at Turner's claims that she only discovered about their divorce online, explaining that she knew all along that he was going to file for divorce after their multiple conversations.

What Sophie Turner Said in Her Lawsuit

Jonas' clarification came after Turner submitted the court documents on Thursday, September 21, where she claimed that "her estranged husband is violating her rights of custody under English law."

She also cited the Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, which Jonas has since called misleading.

According to her attorney, their children know the daily and cultural life in the U.K. and can receive medical care in the country.

Reports claimed before the shocking development that Turner begged Jonas for a second chance. However, the musician reportedly knew that divorce was the only option they had that was in the best interest of their children.
