Happy birthday, Avril Lavigne!

Avril Lavigne Bio

Avril Ramona Lavigne was born on September 27, 1984 in Napanee, Ontario, Canada to a Christian family. Lavigne honed her singing skills by performing in church choirs, local festivals, and county fairs, as per All Music. Avril started playing the guitar and writing songs when she was in her early teens.

After having taken a three-year break from her music career due to a health problem in relation to Lyme disease, Avril returned to the music scene in 2019 with the release of her sixth album, "Head Above Water."

How Avril Lavigne Started Her Music Career

Avril Lavigne's early talents emerged when she initially pursued her passion in country music. At the time, the Canadian musician provided vocals to multiple albums of folk musician, Steve Medd. Avril's music talent didn't go unnoticed, as she was signed on by Arista records at the tender age of 16, after having gained an exposure for the said music projects she began to work on. Arista CEO, Antonio "L.A." Reid took on the role of being Lavigne's manager upon Avril's onboarding with the record label.

Avril Lavigne immediately dropped out of high school as she made her professional debut in the music business, and moved to Manhattan. Because Lavigne was only able to tap on country music material in New York, Arista agreed to take on the singer's request to have the opportunity to venture into rock music. So, the record label sent Lavigne to Los Angeles at that point in time.

Lavigne's debut album, "Let Go" (2002) saw her collaborate with The Matrix.
