'Lil Wayne Bio

Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. (professionally known as 'Lil Wayne) was born on September 27, 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana. 'Lil Wayne grew up in the neighborhood of Hollygrove, and was notable for being a straight-A student during his school days, as per All Music. 'Lil Wayne longed to express his hidden self through music at the time. So, the then-aspiring rapper took on the name of Gangsta D so he could start writing rhymes.

How 'Lil Wayne Started His Music Career

'Lil Wayne's aggressiveness landed him an office job in Cash Money label's business when the former was only 11 years old. One year passed saw 'Lil Wayne partnering with in-house producer, Mannie Fresh and 14-year old, B.G. The duo-formed group was named "the BG'z."

In 1997, 'Lil Wayne formally changed his professional name to as such, from Gangsta D. 'Lil Wayne, thereafter, joined forces with B.G., Juvenile, and Young Turk for a Fresh-group project. In 1998, 'Lil Wayne was featured in Juvenile's "Back that Thing Up" single. This single is otherwise called, "Back that Azz Up", as it is featured in Juvenile's album, "400 Degreez."

A couple of years passed in between from this point on when 'Lil Wayne would collaborate with multiple renowned artists, until he finally debuted his solo music career in 1999, as per All Music. 'Lil Wayne's debut album is called, "Tha Block is Hot." (1999). The lead single off this album is the same title track. The said album went double platinum.

'Lil Wayne Hits and Accomplishments

'Lil Wayne's sophomore album, "Lights Out" (2000) was certified gold. "500 Degreez" (2002) is 'Lil Wayne's third album, and likewise eventually went certified gold.

'Lil Wayne became 100 percent involved in the pursuance of and production of mixtape music after his project, "Da Drought" became a hit in the hip-hop world. This project was a predecessor to the release of his debut breakthrough album, "Tha Carter" (2004). The lead single off this album is "Go DJ."

'Lil Wayne New Collaboration with 2Chainz

Grammy-winner musician, 2Chainz, announces that his upcoming collaboration studio album with 'Lil Wayne called, "COLLEGROVE 2" has been completed, and will be released prior to the end of 2023. As per the 2Chainz (via USA Today), the new album also features the likes of Ed Sheeran and Latin artist, Feid, just to name a few.
