Jason Derulo was slapped with a scathing lawsuit from a singer who claims that she was asked for sexual relations in exchange for a record label deal.
Emaza Gibson claims that she was "traumatized" because of the encounter.
Jason Derulo Sued
According to NBC News, Emaza Gibson claimed that when Jason Derulo reached out to her for a deal, she was thrilled. However, she was surprised that the agreement came with an expectation that she would give him sex.
Gibson revealed to the outlet that she experienced aggressive behavior, unwanted invitations and implications in advance, fear, and for safety.
"I'm at this point in my life right now, it's very heartbreaking," Gibson confessed. "I have anxiety; I'm traumatized. I've dealt with inhumane work situations. ... I'm at this point where I'm back to zero and I have nothing."
Gibson filed the complaint in Los Angeles County Superior Court where she alleged that the singer went "cold" to her when she started to reject the sexual advances that the singer has requested, including repeated invitations to eat out and drink alcohol. She claims that if she kept on declining, Derulo would drop the deal.
Legally, Gibson accused the "Watcha Say" of quid pro quo sexual harassment.
According to Reuters, quid pro quo sexual harassment occurs when an employer or supervisor seeks sexual favors from a subordinate in exchange for some type of job benefit - including a raise, better hours, or a promise of promotion - to avoid demotion or in worst cases, termination.
In Gibson's case, she has to give in to Derulo's sexual favors in exchange for the security of her record deal.
Jason Derulo Invited Emaza Gibson To Dinners
Upon signing, Emaza Gibson thought that the invitation was genuine. Derulo reached out to Gibson in 2021 to work with his music imprint, Future History, and Atlantic Records, which would require Gibson to produce a mixtape for four months and an album in six months. (via NBC News)
'''I'm like, OK, well, Jason is a great artist - big, international, powered with Atlantic - this should be a no-brainer, and I should be able to, you know, start my solo career," Gibson added.
However, she started getting invitations from Derulo.
"I told him that I wasn't a drinker ... so it's like, you know, you're not listening to that the first time I tell you, and you're still pushing on me," Gibson revealed "It's, like, pressure at this point."
At one point, Gibson also alleged that Deulo also asked her to do "goat skin and fish scales," which she later found out to be about snorting cocaine and even offering goat and blood rituals before sex.
As of this writing, Derulo has yet to respond to the sexual harassment allegations.
