President Obama once joked with Jay-Z that the thing the two men shared in common was their respective wives were way more popular than them. It was surprising then when Beyonce, seemingly one of the most popular people in the world, was booed when she came onstage at the V Festival in Weston Park. She was however, more than half an hour late.
Unlike the time we waited half an hour for Erykah Badu to show up for her Lollapalooza gig in 2010 however, Beyonce managed to get the crowd back into her corner quickly. It was the second instance of the V Festival she played this year, the previous being at Hylands Park on Saturday. The loss of the half-hour meant that 'Ye had to adjust her setlist from the night before, but apparently did so without a hitch. Among the highlights were Beyonce originals such as "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" and "Halo" (the closing number), but the pop star threw in a cover of "I Will Always Love You" (we presume the Whitney Houston cover, not the Dolly Parton original).
Beyonce managed to fit 16 tracks and 5 costume changes into a 70-minute set, so it would seem folks still got their money's worth.
"When people ask you in 20 years, you'll be able to say 'I was at V Festival and I saw that Bee-Yon-Cee,''' she said, putting on false British airs.
