The upcoming sell-out gig of Kanye West in Italy is still going ahead next week.
Despite the protests from war veterans who have voiced their outrage at his comments supporting Adolf Hitler, preparations are underway for a spectacular show in an out-of-town open-air arena near Reggio Emilio. The Daily Mail first broke the news earlier this week.
The RCF Arena at Reggio Emilia outside of Bologna has seen a lot of action these past few days, with all sorts of vehicles coming and going.
On Thursday, an interesting development occurred when a private jet landed nearby, and a car with blacked-out windows was seen heading toward the venue - rumor has it that Kanye was inside.
Friday provided an unexpected development regarding the status of the upcoming gig in Reggio Emilia, as it was revealed that prefect Maria Rita Cocciufa had yet to receive official permission to stage it. However, the outlet reported that a request has been submitted for the event next Friday.
In anticipation of the event, nearby hotels have been fully booked with lodging for stagehands, security, and stewards. A fleet of luxury cars and mini-busses has also been reserved for transport.
At a press conference, Cocciufa said that the regional government office is preparing for an upcoming event, which they anticipate will draw 100,000 individuals.
To ensure public safety, a cabinet meeting will take place on Monday to ready the necessary arrangements.
Details of the upcoming concert have yet to be disclosed, leading some to speculate that it could end up being a "listening event" with the performance streamed from where Harry Styles performed earlier this year.
There remains a slight possibility that such may be the case for Kanye West's gig.
Cocciufa had been notified that her office had received a request to host the gig and, in response to it, she mentioned: "I'm not here to comment on any debates about this entertainer - my priority is making sure the event is conducted safely and soundly."
"I can assure you we will do that, and we will undoubtedly need extra police reinforcements."
But due to Kanye West's polarizing remarks regarding praise for Adolf Hitler and Nazism, heightened safety precautions are expected to be in place at the gig.
Last year, the "Donda" rapper made a truly shocking statement during an interview - that even Adolf Hitler had something of value to offer.
He claimed: "Every person has something valuable to bring to the conversation, including Hitler."
"I love Jewish people, but I also love Nazis. There's a lot of things that I love about Hitler, a lot of things, I like Hitler, I am a Nazi."
