Mastodon, Butthole Surfers Singer Gibby Haynes Collaborate On 'Atlanta' [LISTEN]

In its second year, the Adult Swim Singles Program has already birthed plenty of great original material.

The newest offering — "Atlanta" — comes from Mastodon and Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes.

Named for the band's hometown, the track is highlighted by Mastodon's usual hellstorm of guitars and Haynes' unique delivery.

"You don't hear any songbirds around here," he says near the end. "They're so beautiful bound up. Motionless. It's like they're in a g-damn dream."

Followed by evil laughter, the outro lyrics fit right in with the rest of a song about destruction, blood and what have you.

Last year's AS program kicked off with Killer Mike & El-P's single "36" Chain" in June and proceeded to launch new songs by Kitty, Metz, Dan Deacon, Friendzone, Mac DeMarco, Lightning Bolt, Lil B, Marnie Stern, Captain Murphy (Flying Lotus) and several others.

2014 has brought another set of solid artists, including Deafhaven, Speedy Ortiz, Giorgio Moroder and Captain Murphy. Run the Jewels (Killer Mike & El-P) are dropping a new song on Sept. 15, and then KA will round out the group with a track on the 22nd.
