Eminem Bio

Marshall Bruce Mathers III (known professionally as Eminem) was born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Eminem grew up between the states of Missouri and Michigan, and lived in Detroit as a teen, as per All Music. When the aspiring rapper was 14, he began to rap with a high school friend. He and his friend acquired the names "Manix" and "M & M" while they embarked on their rapping gigs.

Adopting the said name saw Eminem pursue the field of battle rapping. Battle rapping was a conflict that was portrayed in the fictionalized film, "8 Mile." It didn't take long for Marshall Mathers to join multiple rap groups. Not too long afterwards, the black rap industry embraced Eminem's talents and skills.

How Eminem Started His Career in Music

After having obtained the experience of rapping with many groups, Eminem's breakthrough came when he released his EP called, "The Slim Shady EP" in 1997. "The Slim Shady EP" paved the way for Eminem to sign a record contract with Interscope records. Eminem entered second at the 1997 Rap Olympics MC Battle in Los Angeles just right after he signed a contract with the said label.

Interscope head, Jimmy Lovine, turned over a copy of "The Slim Shady EP" to Dr. Dre. Dr. Dre, thus, subsequently, showed a keen interest in working with Eminem.
