James Arthur has disclosed that, following the Pride of Britain Awards earlier this month, he was taken by ambulance to the hospital with kidney stones.
The 35-year-old musician discussed the incident on Tuesday's episode of Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden. He said how the star-studded event left him in excruciating pain. His discomfort started right before he stepped onto the red carpet, and before his performance on stage, which he barely made it through, he stocked up on paracetamol.
During the conversation, he explained that he started to feel this ache in his left right before he hit the red carpet. He was all dressed up and ready to go.crown jewel, but as he descended the red carpet, the pain only seemed to become worse.
When he returned to the dressing room, he was writhing in agony on the floor and wondered what he had done to deserve this. He took a lot of paracetamol, and felt that he is no longer able to go home because he must see through the event. At this moment, his pain level was a 10/10. No matter how he entered the stage, he said he trembled the entire show.
He gave a cracking performance, no one never would have known, Amanda said next.

He replied: "It added to the whole... everyone's been complimenting me on that performance." He added, " I got off stage and was like, I've got to go to the hospital, went to the emergency thing, I've got this guy prodding around my bits. They did a scan, found a kidney stone, so I've been on heavy painkillers all week. I get the operation to remove it tomorrow. It added a bit to that performance."
James saw an instant rise to fame after winning The X Factor in 2012 and went on to sell more than 30 million records worldwide. For the musician, however, success wasn't all it was cracked up to be. In August, he acknowledged it was the "best and worst" experience of his life.
After previously discussing how he has waged a protracted battle with depression and previously attempted suicide, James spoke up about what became a "pressure pot" when appearing on This Morning. James acknowledged that he found it 'triggering' to see a clip from when he won the ITV show. It was both the best and worst event of my life, the celebrity said. It was amazing, but also traumatic at the same time.
