Blink-182 took a break for a long time before reuniting again recently, but there was a time when bassist/singer Mark Hoppus almost didn't come back as he struggled with his cancer treatment to the point that he had to learn how to sing and play the bass again.
The trio recently appeared in an interview of Apple Music's Zane Lowe where the musician revealed that he was sure that he would never take the stage with his bandmate Tom DeLonge again after their fallout years ago.
Hoppus said he remained in contact with Travis Barker through the years, but he only got in touch with DeLonge back when he was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma years ago. Ever since, the band has remained inseparable.
Although the bassist already recovered from his medical condition back in 2021, he told the host that it was hard for him to get back to his former self, a rocker who loves singing and playing the bass in front of thousands of fans.
Explaining his experience, Hoppus said: "[I had a] s*****, weak brain eaten with the chemotherapy and pain and everything else. And then getting back in the studio to make this record was like learning how to play bass again." (via Consequence)
Mark Hoppus Had to Learn How to Sing Again
He further noted that his cancer treatment, specifically chemotherapy, "wrecked" his vocal cords so he had to consult a vocal coach in order to help him regain the voice he once lost.
Hoppus added that there were a lot of things he had to do to recover and get back on track again so he and his bandmates could walk on stage and perform at Coachella as it was one of the biggest shows of their career.

Tom DeLonge later chimed in regarding his bandmate's cancer treatment, saying the diagnosis was similar to the plane crash where Travis Barker almost died more than a decade ago.
He recalled the story of visiting Hoppus at his house and told him that the band would get him through whatever he was struggling to for them to reunite and "make the best music we ever made."
Blink-182 Strikes Again
After battling cancer, fans were surprised as Blink-182 decided to reunite again as they went on to perform on several shows.
In 2023, the group announced that they're releasing a new album titled "One More Time..." on October 20, 2023, and they're currently traveling around the world for a tour.
According to their official website, the band's next scheduled show will be at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds in Las Vegas, NV, on October 21 and 22.
For those who are interested in seeing the legends perform live on stage, more details about the complete tour dates, tickets, and RSVP, are available on their official website.
