The songwriter who worked with Britney Spears on her track "Everytime" set the record straight about whether the singer hinted at her pregnancy and abortion in the music video.

Fans created a new theory that "Everytime" - which they have speculated was about Spears and Justin Timberlake - was about the singer's unborn baby. The new buzz emerged after Spears wrote in her memoir that she had an abortion as the *NSYNC member, who was unhappy about it, said they were too young at that time.

Is "Everytime" About Britney Spears' Unborn Baby?

In the music video for Spears' "Everytime," she sings as she walks through a hospital where one woman died while the other gave birth.

"And every time I try to fly, I fall / Without my wings, I feel so small / I guess I need you, baby / And every time / I see you in my dreams / I see your face, you're haunting me / I guess I need you, baby," the lyrics read.

On X, fans brought back the speculations and shared how the memoir shed more light on the song's story.

One said, "The baby in the Everytime music video was the baby Britney felt forced to abort. My heart."

"So, Britney Spears' Everytime is actually a lullaby for her unborn child with Justin Timberlake," another wrote. "This makes the meaning of the song a whole lot different now. She's drowning herself to be with her baby; that's my interpretation of the song & MV."

However, songwriter Annet Artani told a news outlet that it was not the case.

Instead of Spears' life story, she revealed that the song was mostly about their respective breakups - though it shared more of the songwriter's experience.

According to Artani, she wrote the lyrics after her split from Spears' musical director. With that, she clarified that it was about her relationship and not the singer's unborn child.

Meanwhile, the "Toxic" singer explained to MTV in 2004 that the song was about "heartbreak" and "first love."

"That's something all people can relate to, because you all have that first love that you think you're going to be with the rest of your life," she went on.
