Massive Attack guitarist Angelo Bruschini has died, the band confirmed.
On Tuesday, October 24, Massive Attack released a statement on its social media pages to pay tribute to its late band member. Before the band, Bruschini also played with other musical groups like The Blue Aeroplanes, Rimshots and The Numbers.
What Was Angelo Bruschini's Cause of Death?
Massive Attack posted a black and white photo of Bruschini on X as the members expressed their devastation following the massive loss.
The caption read, "A singularly brilliant and eccentric talent. Impossible to quantify your contribution to the Massive Attack canon. How lucky we were to share such a life together."
The post did not disclose Angelo Bruschini's cause of death, but the guitarist's wife, Jessica Merritt, posted a separate statement on Facebook revealing that the musician died on Monday, October 23, from a rare and aggressive form of cancer called pleomorphic carcinoma.
"'It's everyone else who's mad, not me!'. A true gentleman until the end," she continued.
Pleomorphic carcinoma occurs when the cells grow in multiple shapes and sizes. The National Institutes of Health says its survival and disease-free survival rates are around 36.6 percent and 40.7 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, Merritt and Bruschini's friends left heartfelt messages in the comments section after the confirmation of his death.
One said, "Sorry for your loss. He was an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others."
"Oh Jess, I'm so deeply sorry. Gone far far too soon. Thinking of you and sending much love. Xx," another wrote, while one added, "Dreadful news, so sorry to hear Jessica. I was working with him on and off over the past few years and he was amazing. It was a complete and utter pleasure to collaborate with him. Sending all our love from West Wales."
Revisiting Angelo Bruschini's Legacy
Before his death, Bruschini confirmed months ago that he was diagnosed with cancer and expressed his desire to write a book.
"Twice now I have been told 'good luck' by specialists at the hospital over lung cancer, I think I'm f-----!" he wrote. "Had a great life, seen the world many many times, met lots of wonderful people, but the door is closing, think I will write a book."
After playing with other bands, he became part of Massive Attack and played a huge role in some of its albums, including 1998's "Mezzanine" and 2003's "100th Window."
