Noddy Holder spoke up about his health issues for the first time since his diagnosis revelation.
Noddy's wife, Suzan Holder, shocked fans when she revealed in her column for Great British Life magazine that the Slade vocalist was given six months to live when he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer five years ago.
But they witnessed a miracle as the musician is still alive and well today.
Noddy Holder Speaks Up About Cancer Diagnosis
In his recent interview with Alexis Conran on "Jeremy Vine on 5," he and his wife - who is a regular show panelist - spoke about his health battle and the things they went through while dealing with the dreaded disease.
According to Noddy, he learned about the end of the line when he visited Christie hospital in Manchester. At that time, his doctors said his only option was to undergo new intense chemotherapy and that his positive outlook could help him have an ideal result after the treatment.
He agreed to proceed with the clinical trial, and it was the right decision they made.
"And thank goodness he did. It's a targeted chemotherapy now, they are able to do that and every single person reacts differently," he explained. "It was hard going, very hard going. But five years later I'm still standing."
Meanwhile, Suzan recalled when she "fell apart" after discovering the news. Still, she pulled herself together as quickly as possible and went to all Noddy's appointments.
What Happened to Noddy Holder?
Noddy was diagnosed with esophageal cancer five years ago and underwent a brand-new trial of chemotherapy, which was a "grueling phase" of the treatment.
As for the reason why they kept it a secret, the pair revealed in the interview the factor that pushed him to keep it themselves.
"I wanted to keep it quiet because while I was going through the treatment and getting fit again - your resistance is low, really low after the treatment," Noddy added. "I didn't want to be getting calls from the media every five minutes, or people I haven't seen for 25 years. I didn't want the attention, I wanted to deal with it in my own way."
