What To Know About "John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial"

Apple TV+ said "John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial" will show the findings of the most thoroughly researched examination of the singer's death "which shocked and saddened the world."

It will include unseen footage, crime scene photos and eyewitnesses' statements. The documentary series will also show the interviews with the convicted murderer's psychiatrists and lawyers as well as accounts of the detectives and prosecutors.

"The production was granted extensive Freedom of Information Act requests from the New York City Police Department, the Board of Parole and the District Attorney's office; and the series includes exclusive interviews with eyewitnesses - speaking for the first time - along with some of Lennon's closest friends, revealing shocking details of Lennon's tragic murder," the official press release added.

Nick Holt and Rob Coldstream directed the series, while 72 films produced the flick.

"John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial" will follow the 2005 film that dramatized Chapman's story, titled, "Chapter 27."

John Lennon's Murder Revisited

Lennon's murderer has been requesting parole since his imprisonment but always got denied. Chapman is serving 20 years to life sentence at Green Haven Correctional Facility in New York and has been trying to get parole every two years since he became eligible in 2000 - two decades after the killing.

In one of the hearings, the problematic fan told the parole board that he knew it was wrong to kill Lennon. However, his desire for fame and the "evil" in his heart prompted him to commit the crime.

Decades after Lennon's death, conspiracy theories started to emerge as some suggested that Chapman was not the killer. One of the rumors claimed that another gunman killed Lennon.

"Between the two of them, nurses Kammerer and Sato saw Lennon's wounds up close, three times. Twice when he was washed and shrouded," British author David Whelan said after his three-year investigation. "Nobody was better placed to say where and how John Lennon was shot."
