The news that Patrick Dempsey has been named People's 2023 Sexiest Man Alive makes Kelly Clarkson happy. In fact, she finds it quite surprising that it is only now that Dempsey bagged this award - much later than Blake Shelton.

The singer-talk show host, 41, who recently made headlines for her dramatic weight loss, chatted with Access Hollywood at the SiriusXM Next Generation: Industry & Press Preview.

The singer revealed in the red carpet interview that she was surprised Dempsey,57, hadn't won the award before. "He's never had it?" she asked. "What?! That's so shocking to me that he's never had it before. I would have thought that would've been like a second or third time around. Boy, we really messed that one up."

Additionally, she made fun of 2017 winner Blake Shelton when she remarked, "And Blake got it!" before quickly clarifying, "I'm just kidding! I'm just kidding! Blake deserved it."

Kelly also said, "He has great hair," praising the former Grey's Anatomy star.

Dempsey has taken over Chris Evans' title as the "sexiest man alive," which he was awarded last year.

As he talked about finally getting the recognition, he acknowledged that he was surprised to receive it and made the joke that he is "always the bridesmaid."

"I've always been the bridesmaid! I'd completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good," he said.

He is the second-oldest celebrity to win the title; in 1989, at the age of 59, Sean Connery was crowned People's Sexiest Man Alive.

On Tuesday night, Patrick was revealed as the hottest star in the magazine during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The former Grey's Anatomy lead actor,57, made an appearance on the show while the issue's cover was displayed.

After the news was released, the actor, who is married to Jillian, 57, and has a daughter Talula, 21, and twin boys Darby and Sullivan, 16, said, "Thank you very much." Kelly, on the other hand, has recently drawn attention for her dramatic weight loss.

She bonded with Jenna Bush Hager over going through a "chubby" phase on Monday's broadcast of her talk show of the same name.

The "Stronge" hitmaker said that she "loves losing weight" when talking about her weight issues with Today With Hoda & Jenna's co-host. She revealed to Extra in June 2018 that her thyroid issue and autoimmune disease, which were both detected in 2006, were the main causes of her weight gain.
