Madonna and the Eagles of Death Metal joined the music community in remembering the lives of the victims of the 2015 Paris terrorist attacks.
On November 13, 2015, terrorists carried out organized attacks that targeted six bars and restaurants, the Bataclan music hall and the Stade de France sports stadium. Some also committed suicide bombings and shootings in other locations, while another mass shooting happened at a rock concert in the capital.
The New York Times dubbed the event as the worst terrorist attack in Europe since the 2004 attacks on trains in Madrid that left 191 dead and 1,800 others injured.
Around 89 people were also killed by terrorists at Eagles of Death Metal's performance at Le Bataclan music venue at that time.
Paris Terror Attack Victims Remembered
On Monday, November 13, Madonna took a moment during her Celebration Tour in Paris to pay tribute to the victims of the attack.
"This is a tragic event, and I remember singing with David in Place de la République, the last time I was here with the 'Rebel Heart' tour - what little I could do to acknowledge this tragedy," she said. "But these tragedies keep happening, it never ends. And you can ask yourself sometimes, when will it end, and what can we do as human beings to change it?"
The "Back That Up To The Beat" hitmaker was performing on her Rebel Heart tour when the tragic event happened. She and her son, David Banda, visited Place de la République near Le Bataclan to remember the victims at that time.
Meanwhile, the Eagles of Death Metal also shared a clip featuring the French flag while Ed Harcourt's cover of the band's "I Love You All The Time" played in the background. The band previously played in Paris for the survivors, and they offered 89 seconds of silence in memory of the 89 victims at the venue.
Paris Attack's Key Suspect Arrested
Multiple media outlets confirmed the arrest of 20 people for their involvement in the attack. Among the charged individuals was Salah Abdeslam, the only surviving member who directly took part in the killings. He was previously found guilty of trying to kill police officers in a shootout in Brussels years ago.
Another man was jailed in 2021 for allegedly supplying fake documents to the gunmen.
