Miley Cyrus has already dominated the worlds of pop music, family-friendly television and even dabbled in a bit of cinema here and there. As if three realms of the creative world weren't enough for the Bangerz singer, now she's going to enter the world of art. Over the weekend, Cyrus announced she has started an art collection, Dirty Hippy, set to debut at New York Fashion Week.
In a new interview with V, Cyrus explained that her art, which consists of found objects from airports, fan-given gifts and bedazzled Petco items, came from a painful time of her life. Early 2014 found Cyrus in a tumultuous time - her beloved dog Floyd passed away and she entered the hospital for weeks following a severe allergic reaction to medicine - and she channeled her hurt into a new creative venture.
"This seems so f---ing lame to say but I feel like my art became kind of a metaphor - an example of my life. Because a bunch of sh---y things kept happening. I've always been so f---ing lucky. Everything has always just been easy for me," she said. "And at the beginning of this year, I hated 2014 because everything that could go wrong kept going wrong. Being in the hospital, my dog dying...Everything just kept s---ting on me and s--ting on me. So then I started taking all of those s--- things and making them good, and being like, I'm using it. My brother and my friends all said that's what they felt I was doing. So, that's how I started making art. I had a bunch of f---ing junk and s---, and so instead of letting it be junk and s---, I turned it into something that made me happy."
The pieces are notably Miley... featuring children's play beads, drug paraphernalia, teddy bears, colorful fake braids and plenty of illuminated objects.
Fans of Cyrus' Instagram have already gotten a small preview of the Dirty Hippy collection... a 5-foot bong, featuring bracelets and fan-given objects.
Dirty Hippy will debut on Sept. 11 at 11 Mercer in New York City. The objects will also be incorporated in Jeremy Scott's fashion show during NYFW.
