Chick-fil-A, a popular privately owned restaurant chain is grieving the loss of its' founder as billionaire S. Truett Cathy has died. The 93-year old business genius passed away on Sunday according to the chains official Twitter account.
In the last few years Chick-fil-A created controversy with its' founding families conservative views that managed to spill over into the press. The Cathy's frowned upon working on Sunday, so the restaurants are closed for a day of rest, and they also have spoken out against gay marriage.
In 1967 Cathy opened his very first Chick-fil-A restaurant and watched it grow into an empire worth over $6 billion, landing him on the Forbes list of wealthiest Americans year after year. While the company has raised eyebrows due to their moral stance they have also done a lot of good for the communities that they serve. Just last January when a snow storm brought traffic to a halt on an interstate near Birmingham, Alabama workers from the local Chick-fil-A ventured out to take sandwiches to those stranded due to the storm. It took them two hours to make it a whole mile just to deliver food but that is exactly the kind of gesture that could be expected from the company founded by Cathy.
According to the company website, S. Truett Cathy died peacefully at home at 1:35a.m. On Sunday surrounded by loved ones including his wife of 65 years, Jeannette McNeil Cathy. How do you think that the company will now proceed without their founder? Will they still publicly take a hard line conservative approach in honor of Cathy or will we instead see Chick-fil-A become a bit less vocal about private issues?
