In "Tupac Shakur: The Life and Times of an American Icon," author Armond White details how the iconic rapper had made detailed plans for his suicide two years before he was killed in a drive-by shooting.
Fortunately, the rapper's mom Afeni Shakur stopped him from going through with it, pulling her son back from the brink.
Tupac's Suicide Attempt
While awaiting trial on sexual assault charges, Tupac was at his lowest point, ready to take his own life.
This story of despair is recounted in a new book, which details how the legendary rapper was discovered sitting on a couch with two firearms in hand and the words "F--- the world" scrawled across his forehead in black marker pen.
Staci Robinson, the author of "Tupac Shakur: The Authorized Biography," expressed to The Sun why she chose to include this particular event in her work.
She stated that it was essential to demonstrate the despair Tupac felt as he tried to recover from his bullet wounds and deal with the looming threat of prison time.
Robinson wanted readers to understand just how vulnerable he was during this moment.
"I believe his mother pulled him back from the edge. She essentially made him understand that he was needed in a not-so-fair world and his presence would be lost in making change....as she knelt in front of him that day, she told him to 'fight for the good in this world.'"
Tupac reportedly became overwhelmed with sorrowful musings when he was wrongfully accused of sexually assaulting an admirer in a hotel room.
Despite his vehement insistence on innocence, the book outlines how he reached his lowest point after the conviction.
According to the author, the "Dear Mama" rapper was seated on their living room couch, tightly gripping a shotgun and .45 millimeter.
Upon discovering this, his mother Afeni, his aunt Glo, and a family friend attempted to talk him down from whatever had been going through his head. Sure enough, the day after, he confessed to them that he had plotted out suicide in great detail.

The Grim Ending That Failed
Before his fateful death, Tupac meticulously plotted out a grim ending for himself. As described in the first biography authorized by the estate of Tupac, he wished to be driven to the forest where he could spend an evening with his friends and partake in one last joint before shooting himself.
"He wanted them to drive him to the woods, where he would share one last blunt ....Then they would leave him there with his shotgun."
"And when it happens, Tupac said, 'don't let them touch my body. I don't want them touchin' my body. Y'all take my body.'"
At the time, Tupac was overwhelmed with fear, knowing that his only options were to flee or turn himself in. He was concerned, however, that if he chose to run, his loved ones would be put at risk by the authorities.
Without another word, he allegedly begged his fellow companions to pledge their loyalty. But there was silence; nobody spoke up.
