A few months ago, Olivia Rodrigo released her second album titled "GUTS" and she recently looked back at her experience writing the songs for the project and she candidly shared her struggles along the way.
Variety recently had an interview with the young pop star as she's set to receive the publication's Storyteller of the Year award as part of their Hitmakers ceremony this weekend.
During the conversation, Rodrigo became candid and noted that she learned a lot of lessons while writing her sophomore record.
"The experience tested my confidence and patience. It taught me some important lessons about songwriting in terms of focusing on your craft rather than just waiting for inspiration to strike," she explained. (via Billboard)
Olivia Rodrigo Writes Songs That She Wants to Hear
In the music industry today, some major record companies wanted musicians to write songs that will be loved and liked by the masses.
However, in Rodrigo's case, she personally don't want to do it as she believes that it will result into a bad song.
"You can never sit down at the piano and try to write something that everyone will like; that always results in a really bad song. It taught me that I write songs that I want to hear," she said.
The singer always writes her feelings through songs in an honest way because it "gravitated" towards her life.
It also appears that music is a form of therapy for the musician as it helps her process what she's feeling and comforts her when she feels those "big feelings."
"It's just nice to know that someone else is experiencing them. It makes you feel less alone," she said of people relating to her music.
