Jay-Z Bio
Shawn Corey Carter (professionally known as Jay-Z) was born on December 4, 1969 in New York City. Jay-Z grew up in the tough neighborhood of Marcy Projects in Brooklyn, New York, and was raised by his mother while he sought to become an amateur rapper and a street drug dealer when he was growing up. Jay-Z likewise resorted to becoming a street hustler as one of his gigs that he got into in order to make the money he needed when he was younger.
How Jay-Z Started His Music Career
After having have been influenced by a couple of notable rappers, Jay-Z was able to establish his own record label. Jay-Z formed the record label, Roc-a-Fella records alongside friends, Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke, as per All Music. Jay-Z eventually got a hold of a professional music distributor, Priority Records (which has been later on renamed as Def Jam), and, thus, got to release his debut album, "Reasonable Doubt" (1996).

"Reasonable Doubt" climbed up to the number 23 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. The lead single off this album was "Ain't No Nigga" (feat. Foxy Brown). Other music legends whose works were featured in "Reasonable Doubt" were those of DJ Premier and Notorious B.I.G.Other hits Jay-Z's debut album generated were "Can't Knock the Hustle," "Dead Presidents," and "Feelin' It."
Jay-Z's sophomore album,"In My Lifetime" reached number three on the Billboard 200. Pop music producers, P. Diddy and Teddy Riley were featured in this album. Singles, "Sunshine" and "The City is Mine" yielded off "In My Lifetime" exhibited pop beats.
