In 2016, Taylor Swift was hounded by criticisms because of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's antics. Public opinion turned on her, even her closest friends at the time betrayed her.
Swift went into hiding as she revealed that it had affected her psychologically.
Here's What Taylor Swift Did After The Infamous Kanye West Call
Speaking to TIME Magazine for the 2023 Person of the Year cover story, Taylor Swift opened up about Snakegate.
In the conversation, Swift did not mince her words when talking about the particularly grim moment of her life.
"Make no mistake - my career was taken away from me," she confessed. "That took me down psychologically to a place I've never been before."
Kim Kardashian then orchestrated a character assassination job on Taylor Swift, which prompted her to deactivate social media and go on a hiatus, basically erasing herself on all of social media.
"I moved to a foreign country. I didn't leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls," she remembered. "I pushed away most people in my life because I didn't trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard."
Swift then came blazing with "Reputation" in 2017, shutting down all the haters and detractors from the controversy. It became her biggest album at the time, shattering records, and turning public opinion back again at her.
In 2020, the unedited version of the phone call emerged, fully clearing Taylor Swift's name.
Taylor Swift 'Reputation' Album Update
Elsewhere in the interview, Taylor Swift teased the release of her upcoming re-recording of "Reputation."
Describing the "From The Vault" tracks as "fire," Swift sparingly teased what fans could expect and when they could expect the highly-anticipated re-recording to drop.
Swift described selecting the songs she would add to the album like "collecting horcruxes" in "Harry Potter," and "collecting Infinity Stones" in "Avengers." "Gandalf's voice is in my head every time I put out a new one. For me, it's a movie now," Swift said, dropping a "Lord of the Rings" metaphor too.
When Taylor Swift capped off her South American leg in Brazil earlier last November 2023, fans expected that she would announce the release date of her next re-recording. However, fans could only hope. As of this writing, the "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" album release has yet to be announced.
