I believe God cried as Olivia Rodrigo performed her goose-bump-raising single, "Can't Catch Me Now" from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Coming off a stellar performance on Saturday Night Live and a Tiny Desk at NPR, Rodrigo decided to show up at the Ed Sullivan Theater for a hair-raising performance. Donning a white dress and sitting on a stool, Rodrigo lets loose her vocal cords.
"But I'm in the trees, I'm in the breeze/ My footsteps on the ground/ You'll see my face in every place/ But you can't catch me now," Rodrigo sang in an airy voice on the song's chorus as the camera panned back to reveal white lights cutting through smoke and a backing band playing the song's haunting track.
By the close of the performance, Rodrigo was on her feet making God cry with her beautiful performance.
"You can't catch me now," she raged before falling into a whisper: "you thought that this was the end."
The night also marked Stephen Colbert's return to the show after undergoing an emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix.
