Bikini Kill, the iconic punk rock band known for spearheading the Riot Grrrl movement, is gearing up for a special benefit show on January 27 at the Capitol Theater in Olympia, Washington. The proceeds from the event will go to support the Palestine Children's Relief Fund. The band, formed in Olympia in 1990, consists of members Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail, Billy Karren, and Kathi Wilcox. Their fearless and feminist approach to punk music has left an indelible mark on the genre.
The benefit show lineup includes the Ghost Ease, a Portland-based rock band, along with guest speaker Selma Al-Aswad. This event aligns with Bikini Kill's commitment to social and political causes, as evidenced by their November signing of an open letter advocating for a cease-fire in Gaza. The letter featured signatures from notable artists such as Brian Eno, Zack de la Rocha, Arooj Aftab, Kid Cudi, and many others.
Fans of Kathleen Hanna, Bikini Kill's frontwoman, can also look forward to her upcoming memoir titled "Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk," set to be released next spring. Adding to the excitement, the band has plans for a European and UK tours scheduled for June. As Bikini Kill continues to blend activism with their influential punk sound, the benefit show serves as another powerful chapter in their enduring legacy.
