Chris Wallace suffered a backlash after criticizing TIME Magazine and its decision to hail Taylor Swift as the Person of the Year Award.

TIME Magazine scored the spotlight after it announced Swift as the 2023 Person of the Year Award. It has named different people as the Person of the Year every year since 1927 to acknowledge their influence on the public. Among the notable people on the list include George W. Bush, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Queen Elizabeth II, Ronald Reagan, Bill Gates, Greta Thunberg and Wallis Simpson, to name a few.

However, Wallace commented on the recent result and said Chinese leader Xi Jinping would have been a better choice.

Chris Wallace's Ratings Plummet After Commenting on Taylor Swift's TIME Win

Nielson released its latest data (via RadarOnline.com) on Sunday, December 10, revealing that Wallace lost more than 50 percent of his viewers after criticizing Swift.

In the 25-54 demographic, the broadcaster only had 60,000 viewers on December 2. He had 122,000 viewers on November 4, suffering a 51 percent drop.

His The Chris Wallace Show's ratings also plummeted by 12 percent, scoring only 543,000 on December 2 after having 620,000 viewers on November 4.

Wallace clarified in his comment that he likes Swift but prefers her earlier songs to her recent tracks.

"But then Time wouldn't have gotten the Taylor cover and it wouldn't have gotten the interview with Taylor, who doesn't do interviews," he added. "To me, it sure looks like a pure marketing play for a magazine that used to have a circulation of more than four million and is now down to a little more than one million."

He immediately got called out for his take, with Kara Swisher responding to his comment and Lulu Garcia-Navarro demanding him to remove his Swifties bracelet.

"What is the issue with her? They do this all the time," Swisher hit back. "And the last thing is media trying to attract an audience. You're kidding me. Of course they're trying to attract an audience. And she is someone lots of people really like and have consumed a lot of her content."

Swift has yet to respond to Wallace's comments. As of press time, she is busy with her ongoing Eras Tour and supporting her beau, Travis Kelce.
