A woman in Illinois has been served with a $250,000 fine for selling handmade tumblers with Luke Combs' face in it. Upon finding out that she had been served a fine via an email she rarely used, the woman was overwhelmed.
The Country superstar caught a whiff of the news and reached out to her, vowing to help her off the fiasco.
Luke Combs Tumbler Fiasco Explained
While scrolling on social media, Luke Combs saw a WFLA news report that showed a weeping Nicol Harness who arrived home from the hospital not knowing that she was being sued by an Illinois court. Apparently, the notice went to an email she rarely uses. She only knew that she was fined $250,000 for selling Luke Combs tumbler on Amazon.
According to Luke Combs, she was "completely and utterly unaware" of the lawsuit in his name as he only knew that there was a company working to seize large companies creating counterfeit items. (via Variety)
"We do have a company that goes after folks - only, supposedly, large corporations operating internationally that make millions and millions of dollars - making counterfeit T-shirts, things of that nature, running illegal businesses," Combs said in a video message addressing the issue. "And apparently this woman, Nicol, has somehow gotten wrapped into that, and that makes me absolutely sick to my stomach."
Combs has since reached out to Harness, who just got home from the hospital for congestive heart failure. Combs has vowed to help the woman, saying that he would be sending her $11,000 to meet her immediate needs and even double the $5,500 that was locked up on her Amazon account.
As for the $250,000 fine, it is not known yet whether the fine will be reversed.
"It's very stressful. I don't have money to pay my bills," Harness said in a statement. "I just want this resolved. I didn't mean any harm to Luke Combs. I quit selling the tumbler. I pulled it down. I just don't understand." She said selling items through an Amazon storefront is her primary source of income, and that company cut off her access to that money after the judgment.
In effect, Combs said that he would be releasing a new line of tumblers on his own merchandise store and all proceeds would go directly to Harness.
