Lizzo is denying the allegations of another bombshell allegation thrown at her. A clothing designer accused the "About Damn Time" singer of fostering a "culture of racism and bullying" when she was working, following a controversial lawsuit filed by three of Lizzo's former dancers.
Lizzo's lawyer had denied the allegations and wanted the lawsuit to be tossed out immediately.
Lizzo New Lawsuit Explained
According to Asha Daniels, a clothing designer who worked on Lizzo's "Special" tour this year, she faced a culture of "racism and bullying" while she was working with the singer. (via Billboard)
Joining in February 2023, Daniels claimed that she had "suffered constant anxiety and panic attacks."
In Daniels' allegations, she claimed that Lizzo's dancers were forced to change clothes in "small, tight changing areas...with little to no privacy" with the stage crew "primarily white males, would lewdly gawk, sneer, and giggle" while watching them change and dress up.
When Daniels expressed concern over the questionable culture, she was advised by the wardrobe manager who "laughed" and advised her not to tell anyone else about the said issue or even attempt to fix it.
Throughout the entirety of her employment, Daniels accused the wardrobe manager Andrea Nomura, of making racist and fatphobic comments, making offensive stereotypical impressions of a black woman, and even calling Black women on tour as "dumb, "useless" and "fat."
Lizzo Team Wants Lawsuit To Be Dismissed
In a new filing, Lizzo's team wanted to toss out Daniels' complaint. (via Billboard)
"During her brief employment by [Lizzo's touring company], Plaintiff refused to comply with instructions from her supervisors and tour management, failed to perform the work that she was assigned and, eventually, just played hooky and refused to show up for work," they said in a statement. "Unsurprisingly, she was terminated after abandoning her post on the day of a concert in Paris, France."
Meanwhile, Daniel's team described Lizzo's filing as "yet another Hail Mary by Lizzo's team to try to shift blame to the victims" of her wrongdoing.
"Lizzo and her lawyers can continue trying to rationalize her illegal and wretched conduct but we remain committed to seeking justice for our clients, and look forward to our day in court where Lizzo can explain her behavior in a public forum," they added.
