It's been seven years since Childish Gambino released his very successful third studio album "Awaken, My Love!" but an issue is making waves around the internet because the woman who appeared on the cover art claimed that she and her team never got residuals for the project.
According to Uproxx, the woman wearing a headdress on the album cover is Giannina Otero, she reportedly shared a post on Facebook claiming that the artist never gave her and her team the residuals that he promised them. In addition, she also noted that at the time, she received a low payment for the photoshoot.
"We received low pay but were promised residuals but never received anything... The only person who received residuals was a white woman who created the headpiece even though she was not on set to work on this (but she also deserves it)," she wrote.
Otero noted that things have been emotional and sad to deal with, adding, "After years of lies and silence then finding out statute of limitation complications... it's been an exhausting, emotional, and overall sad thing to deal with."

The woman further noted that the situation took a lot from her especially that she and her team worked on the photoshoot for the album cover with "so much love" and she was happy to represent black artists.
It appeared that Childish Gambino, whose real name is Donald Glover, has not responded to the incident as Otero added that his team have been avoiding her lawyers.
In the post, she shared a photo of herself holding a vinyl record of the album and it appeared that it was an earlier post with a follow-up update.
In the first line of the post, she wrote, "This album has been so hard for me to celebrate for many reasons, and for years I resented it even. It put me through a lot but finally being able to celebrate it means a lot."
Childish Gambino 'Awaken, My Love!'
The album was released in December 2016 by Childish Gambino under Glassnote Records.
"Awaken, My Love!" was critically acclaimed as most of the songs were sung instead of rapped. The sound was also unique as it featured a combination of different genres such as psychedelic soul, R&B, funk, and more.
It was even nominated for "Album of the Year" and "Best Urban Contemporary Album" awards at the Grammy Awards in 2018.
Some of the most popular songs from the album were "Redbone," "Terrified," and "Me and Your Mama," which were all three released singles.
