Barbra Streisand has been in the entertainment industry for a long time and fans couldn't wait to get a copy of her upcoming memoir, but they should also know that the book will focus more on the side of fashion rather than life.
To share more information about her new book titled "My Name Is Barbra," the legendary performer spoke in an interview with the New York Times, saying she feels free at the age of 81 regardless of what she wears.
During the conversation, the "Funny Girl" star said, "people should express themselves and wear whatever they feel on any given day. And that has nothing to do with age."
Initially, Streisand was cautious about what she wore, especially if it was sensual, back in the day because it was a different time and she didn't want to be seen in a certain way.
Now that she's older, the singer said she's "too old to care." (via Page Six)
Barbra Streisand Shares Fashion Inspirations
Most of the time, people would dress accordingly to what's trending in the present, but in Streisand's case, she never "went with the style of the day."
"I guess I looked different, I dressed different," Ms. Streisand said in this rare interview.
Speaking about her fashion inspirations, the musician said, "I had other images in my head. I was inspired by period films, paintings in museums and those fabulous Mucha posters of Sarah Bernhardt that I first saw when I was a teenager."
Back in the day when she was performing at piano bars in New York, Streisand was in charged of her own looks as she preferred wearing long-sleeved Persian vest as she didn't relate to any conventional gown that most singers wore at that period of time.
Looking back at her successful career, Streisand had already evolved in terms of style and fashion, but she still wanted to remain authentically herself.
She even used clothing from movies that she worked on like "The Prince of Tides."
"Like I wrote in my book, 'Why can't women be accomplished and attractive, strong and sensitive, intelligent and sensual?'" she added.
