"I know he was loved by many of you, and in the coming days, I will share some stories about his life, but right now our family needs time to process this and grieve," the caption continued.

Fans, colleagues and friends left heartfelt tributes in the comments section and sent their condolences to the bereaved family.

One said, "Oh brother Bill, so sorry for your loss; condolences to your entire family... Godspeed..."

"Thank you for sharing him and your love for him with us. Peace be with you and with everyone who loved him," a third added.

Grateful Dead's archivist David Lemieux also released a separate statement in which he called John his "friend and mentor."

The family has yet to share information about the funeral and memorial.

John Cutler's Journey With Grateful Dead

In 2015, Bill shared John's experience with the band in Egypt during his interview with Jambase. He revealed how it opened the doors for him for a full-time role and how tough it had been because his brother worked amid the Israel and Egypt's war at that time.

"At the time Egypt was so much more primitive," he said. "When they looked for cable they really couldn't find any... until they opened up an old shed and they found cable that was left behind by the Nazis when they were fleeing the British. They gave John that cable.

After the gig, Grateful Dead officially hired John full-time.
