This year has garnered its fair share of chart-topping hits, but netizens could not help but notice that the music charts were constantly full of releases from female artists.

Shakira returned to the music charts after several years in 2023 with her viral hit song, "BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53," with Bizarrap. The song alludes to the messy separation between the singer and her ex, Gerard Pique.

Miley Cyrus also made a stunning comeback to the music scene this year by releasing her highly anticipated album, "Endless Summer Vacation," which spawned one of the most viral songs in 2023--"Flowers."

Taylor Swift Top Artist in 2023

Taylor Swift started 2023 strong thanks to her 2022 release, "Midnights." Since the album was dropped, it never strayed far from the Billboard Hot 200.

Swift was constantly up against several artists in the music charts, like Drake, but her music remained on top.

She released a four-year-old song, "Cruel Summer" as a single this year, and she was crowned as Spotify's Top Global Artist.

Aside from the "Lover" track, her "Anti-Hero" song was also constantly streamed on the music streaming platform, alongside SZA's "Kill Bill," "Calm Down" by Selena Gomez and Rema.

Two rising stars have gotten a lot of traction online: Sabrina Carpenter, thanks to her hit song "Nonsense" and Tate McRae with her TikTok sensation hit "Greedy."

The two artists rose to prominence this year for various reasons; Carpenter kicked off her highly anticipated tour in support of her "Emails I Can't Send" album, and she was inducted into Swift's girl gang.

On the other hand, McRae garnered a lot of attention on TikTok when her song was used on several trends on the app, which was instigated by "Tube Girl."
