Singer-songwriter Monica sparked concerns after she seemingly fainted during a recent show.
The year 2023 was a fruitful one for Monica as she held concerts and performed in front of her fans. But before ringing the new year, she worried fans after a video of her reportedly fainting onstage was spread online.
What Happened to Monica?
TMZ exclusively obtained a copy of a video taken by one concertgoer on Saturday, December 30, in Houston. Monica can be seen performing her hit track "Angel of Mine," moments before she was reportedly seen passing out at the side of the stage.
A crew member then quickly carried a blonde person - believed to be Monica - away from the public's eyes.
Fans seemingly confirmed the event, noting that Monica left in an ambulance after losing consciousness when she was at the stairs. Concertgoers also said she came out late, leading people to leave after waiting more than half an hour.
One said, "I pray Monica okay she fainted last night while walking off stage."
"From what I've been seeing, she either fainted or had a near fainting spell on stage. She either is sick or it could've been her high blood pressure. She's mentioned before how hypertension caused her to pass out before," another noted.
Monica's representatives have yet to respond to inquiries.
She has been open about her health issues, including her mitral valve prolapse which she was diagnosed with when she was 18. The condition occurs when the flap between the heart's upper and lower chambers does not close properly.
Monica's other health issues include high blood pressure and endometriosis, the latter required her to undergo several surgeries.
Monica Reflected on the Dangers of Concerts
In 2023, Monica appeared in the headlines when she helped a woman at her concert who was being assaulted by a man. She then expressed her worries that concerts might be soon become a "dangerous space for fans."
"I didn't want to see her hurt or harmed and her not make it back home after just coming to be a concertgoer," Monica told CNN's Abby Phillip. "These concerts have become what almost feels like a dangerous space and place and I just really want that to change."
