In 2022, Mendes' mental health has taken a toll which is why he canceled his current world tour.

Shawn Mendes Welcomes 2024

In an Instagram post, Canadian singer Shawn Mendes posted his self-reflection as he welcomed 2024.

"Over the last year i spent a lot of time singing like this.. I found that in moments of extreme anxiety or fear if i sat down with my harmonium and allowed myself with full trust to sing whatever came out it would often ease the pain," he recalled.

According to Mendes "it felt so difficult" at first to sing without needing "perfection.

"But after a while i actually started to fall in love with the dance between the 'right' and the 'wrong' notes," he continued. "i realized there were only moments of bliss and euphoria from the 'right' notes BECAUSE of the 'wrong' notes. The only reason i can sing in key is because i've learned to listen."

Mendes also shared that his "biggest leson" for him this year is to "accept and welcome the lows of life" and not to "constantly need to change or fix something in order to feel high again, because i know if i really slow down and listen when i'm low there's always something to hear."

Shawn Mendes Cancels World Tour

In 2022, Shawn Mendes surprised everyone by canceling his world tour that was supposed to run until the second quarter of 2023.

"It has become more clear that I need to take the time I've never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger. I unfortunately have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK/Europe," he wrote at the time. (via People Magazine) "We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much-needed time off, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority. This doesn't mean I won't be making new music, and I can't wait to see you on tour in the future."

In a Wall Street Journal Interview, Shawn reflected on the difficult decision, as he is now in therapy after her huge announcement.

"The process was very difficult. A lot of doing therapy, a lot of trying to understand how I was feeling and what was making me feel that way. And then doing the work to help myself and heal," he told the outlet. "And also leaning on people in my life to help a little bit."
