50 years ago today, Sept. 10, the Kinks scored their first number one single, "You Really Got Me." In celebration of this anniversary, the Kinks have announced that they will be releasing a five-disc box spanning their '60s-early '70s peak, NME reports. The Anthology 1964-1971 will compile the legendary band's best-loved songs, alongside 25 previously unreleased tracks including demos, outtakes, alternate mixes, and interviews.
Among the classic Kinks singles compiled in The Anthology 1964-1971, are "You Really Got Me," "All Day and All of the Night," "Waterloo Sunset," and "The Village Green Preservation Society." The set will also include previously unreleased versions of "Who'll Be Next In Line," "Tell Me Now So I'll Know," and "Dedicated Follower of Fashion." In total, over 100 songs will be included across the five discs of the collection, which will also come with an exclusive seven-inch single.
The Anthology 1964-1971 is set for release on Nov. 3.
The Kinks' final studio album Phobia was released back in 1993. The band split in 1996 after nearly 33 years together, though guitarists Ray and Dave Davies have revealed that they are discussing a Kinks reunion and even new material.
"We've...spoken a few times on the phone and emailed," Ray Davies told The Sunday Times of his brother Dave, with whom he has had an infamously fraught relationship. "He's been composing his own songs, but I'd really like to write with him again. We both agree we don't want to do old stuff or tour with past hits. It's got to be something new."
