Kelly Clarkson has been widely praised for her vocal abilities and her songwriting prowess - her latest album, "Chemistry," was another testament to her excellence.
The singer noted that while the album chronicled the ups and downs of her latest relationship, it also largely mirrored the suffering that she felt during that time.
Kelly Clarkson Overcame Depression After Brandon Blackstock Divorce
In a cover story interview with People Magazine, Kelly Clarkson said that writing her new album, "Chemistry," provided an avenue for her to overcome the pain she suffered from her divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
"I didn't see it other than: This is my outlet. I'm a let-go person; I don't hold grudges. So it was really delving into what happened in my life and why - and what am I going to do about it?" Clarkson confessed.
Clarkson, an acclaimed songwriter, couldn't thank music enough for providing her an outlet to heal from the heartbreak and pain that she had recently suffered.
"I cannot express how appreciative I feel for having that kind of healthy outlet. Because the level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard. You feel alone, and it's just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming," she added.
As she credits her album becoming her "therapy," Clarkson noted that releasing the said record felt like she was reclaiming her power.

Kelly Clarkson Suffered From Brandon Blackstock Marriage
Clarkson endured a lot of hurtful things from her marriage with Blackstock - among those was being compared to Rihanna. In a New York Post report, it was revealed that Blackstock had told Clarkson that she wasn't "sexy" enough to be a coach on NBC's "The Voice" at the time.
She testified in a court hearing that Blackstock had advised the network and its executives to not get her because they were "looking for a more sex symbol type" like Rihanna. Blackstock also added that the preference of the network was more to appeal to the black community aside from adding a "sex symbol" on the show.
When lawyers asked Clarkson about the said events and how she recalled it, Clarkson said: "A wife never forgets being told she's not a desirable figure; that lingers."
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock settled their divorce last January 2022 and she was granted primary custody of her kids, River Rose and Remington Alexander.
