Céline Dion has been transparent about being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, an uncommon illness that resulted in vocal cord damage and spasms in her muscles. More than a year ago, the singer was compelled to postpone her concerts and withdraw from the spotlight.
The untimely death of her niece has left the singer grieving, on top of her already difficult health fight with stiff person syndrome.
On December 29, Brigitte Dion, 51, tragically lost her life in an automobile accident in the Saint-Thomas district of the province of Quebec.
The tragedy happened in the afternoon on Friday, the last Friday of 2023, according to the Journal de Montréal.
For reasons that are unclear, an automobile veered out of its lane, colliding with Brigitte's car and another vehicle in the process. Living close to the accident scene, Céline's niece was on her way to a supermarket when she realized she forgot her wallet and had to come back home.
The well-known singer has not responded to the information.

Brigitte's daughter Kim Cantin Dion, however, has posted some pictures of herself and her mother on social media along with a touching message about her loss. I'm confused, Mom. Look how beautiful she is, my mom. Because you were my mom forever," she wrote.
Meanwhile, Claudette Dion disclosed that her sister Céline had lost control of her muscles in her health update from last month. According to Claudette, who spoke with 7 jours, "she doesn't have control over her muscles."
"She doesn't have control over her muscles," Claudette told 7 Jours. "What breaks my heart is that she's always been disciplined. She's always worked hard. Our mother always told her, 'You're going to do it well, you're going to do it properly.'"
The iconic singer had to cancel her Courage World Tour earlier this year, revealing her neurological condition which causes muscle spasms and stiffness.
On Instagram, she wrote, "I'm so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I'm working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you're 100%. It's not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it's best that we cancel everything now until I'm really ready to be back on stage again."
