Fans have criticized Rita Ora for endorsing a $2,499 radiation-free MRI exam that the "great majority of people cannot afford."
Following a ground-breaking Prenuvo scan that offers early detection for over 500 tumors and illnesses, the 33-year-old musician faced criticism.
Because of her mother Vera's prior struggle with breast cancer, Rita stated she believes in "doing anything she can" to maintain her own health.
Rita posted pictures of herself before the scan and stated that being proactive and not reactive with physical health has alway been so important to her because of her mum's record of breast cancer.
She added that she firmly thinks that she should take all the necessary steps to maintain her health and get knowledge about her body. She added that she recently had a complete body scan at @prenuvo.
The amazing technology and the Prenuvo doctors who explained my results and gave me advice on how to properly take care of myself amazed me.
All of the steps were guided and supported for me. Many thanks, gentlemen. Visit Prenuvo.com for additional information.
Fans, on the other hand, were very critical of Rita, pointing out that the scan will mostly be utilized by the "wealthy," not by regular people.
A person on Instagram asked: "How much did that cost?!" Most likely, we common mortals couldn't afford such luxury.
Another irate commenter said, "Wow, advertising proactive scans for the wealthy and priviledged, a full body MRI is something the vast majority of people can't afford. I wonder if you paid for your scan?'
A third wrote, almost saying the same time. "That's great Rita but how affordable is this for ordinary people? It's probably not even accessible for the general public," the follower wrote.
"Your fans can't afford this, but good for you, eh?" wrote another.
Kim Kardashian faced similar criticism earlier for pushing the same scan to her Instagram fan base.
The millionaire businessman, who was dealing with a ruptured tendon and a shattered shoulder, added the hashtag #NotAnAd to the end of the message of her promoting this MRI.
But there were a ton of comments in the comment area complaining about how the scan was "not affordable" for "regular folks."
Another extremely tone deaf post from a Kardashian, one fan said, while another typed, "Tone deaf and incorrect information!!"
The problem is, even the medical world is not entirely sold on this operation that Kim Kardashian and Rita Ora are endorsing.
Since the Prenuvo scan first appeared on the scene five years ago, many in the medical world have criticized it. Because there is no data to support their efficacy, the American College of Preventive Medicine has said that they do not advise whole-body scanning for those who are asymptomatic.
The scans could "cause significant harms, and waste money and healthcare resources," the ACPM said. In December, Insider was informed by Matthew Davenport, vice chair of the Quality and Safety Commission of the American College of Radiology, that the scans are "a terrible idea."
Davenport cautioned that by pressuring patients to get needless testing, the scans can endanger them. According to Prenuvo, however, the scans remain safe because the technology is supported by research that has been clinically confirmed.
