With the departure of their most recent leader and the son of the original singer being considered for the role, US rock band Sublime has undergone a major lineup change.

When Sublime first started in 1988, its original lineup of drummer Bud Gaugh, bassist Eric Wilson, and singer and guitarist Bradley Nowell.

Their most well-known songs are "What I Got" and "Santeria."

The band originally broke up in 1996 following the untimely heroin overdose death of Nowell.

After that, in 2009, they got back together with Rome Ramirez as their new lead singer. However, because Nowell's estate owned the rights to the old name, they had to rename themselves Sublime with Rome.

But Ramirez announced his departure from the band in late December. Surprisingly, Nowell's son Jakob is set to take over as frontman.

Mirez is going to depart following the band's 2024 tour dates. "It's been kind of cooking for a while," Ramirez said on his resignation to The Big Takeover. "That kind of move is not, or is not, made impulsively. Either or is the case. It seems like something that has either been cooking for a while or that you announced on Twitter when inebriated."

He gave his departure as being motivated by a desire to take on some new creative challenges. Ramirez elaborated: "For me, creatively, there's always that thing that every creative person goes through where it's comfortable with the life you know doing this, but then there's this other side of you that, as you grow and change and evolve, there's another side of you that you really have to put energy into, or you start to feel different."

Recently, Jakob Nowell and Sublime performed live. Bud Gaugh, who departed in 2011, made a surprise appearance.

On Instagram, the band posted: "Bud and Eric hadn't shared the stage together in over a decade, and it was the first time Jake shared the stage with both of them. The feedback, messages, and response has been appreciated and overwhelming. Everyone had a blast, and that is what it's all about."

Now fans of the group are asking that Jakob be a permanent replacement of Ramirez as the full time frontman.

One fan commented, "How is this lineup not a tour? There should never be another sublime song performed ever again without Jakob on the mic."

A second also said, "Jakob sounds so much like his dad. It's beautiful and inspiring... this is the Sublime we want and deserve."

One gushed, "his is the meaning of sublime, f****** incredible moment for so many of us..."
