Whenever guitarists change the strings of their guitar, they often cut the remaining material on its end as it tends to be a distraction while performing on stage. However, for Tom Morello, he doesn't cut the strings at all and this has become a mystery for fans of Rage Against The Machines for years.
More recently, supporters finally had an enlightment from the guitarist himself as he revealed the reason why he never cut the excess strings of his guitar.
The group recently dropped by "The Howard Stern Show" for an interview where the host, Howard Stern, finally got the answer from Morello.
It turns out, the biggest reason why he does it is because it just looks cool, but there is still more to that in which he explained to the famous radio personality.
Why Tom Morello Leaves On Excess Strings
In the interview, the host asked: "By the way, why do you not cut your strings? Why do you always have your strings sticking out? I feel like it's an accident."
Morello replied and clarified that it was not an accident, but rather, it just looks good for him.
"I didn't cut the strings because I thought it looked cool," he added. (via Loudwire)
Regardless of his decision, not everyone was in favor of what he did to his guitar strings as he recalled that someone shamed him for doing the way he did.
"I was shamed by a musician friend... 'Who do you think you are? Do you think you're in the baddest band in town?' I thought, 'I'm definitely not,' so I cut my strings," he said.
Not cutting the strings also has a deeper meaning for him because by the time he became a member of Rage Against The Machine, he felt that he belong in the "baddest band in town" so he flaunted his strings and didn't cut it anymore.
Rage Against The Machine Split AGAIN
The recent news comes a few days after drummer Brad Wilk announced that the band is breaking up again.
In a social media post, he told his followers that they might be waiting for a new set of tour dates to be announced for their previously canceled shows, but he revealed that it won't happen anymore.
"So while there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future... I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom and I) will not be touring or playing live again," he said. (via USA Today)
