R. Kelly Bio
Robert Sylvester Kelly (professionally known as R. Kelly) was born on January 8, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. As a child, R. Kelly sang in the Baptist church choir in which his own mother was a singer lead. R. Kelly soon snagged victory in a talent show in the high school he attended. That victory led the then-aspiring musician to focus on pursuing his passion in music, as per All Music.
Not too long after, R. Kelly stopped attending school, and created the singing group called, Musically Gifted Men (MGM).
R. Kelly Early Music Career Beginnings
R. Kelly thereafter joined the group, Public Announcement in 1991. R. Kelly and Public Announcement released their debut album, "Born into the '90's" in 1992. In 1993, R. Kelly went on to embark a solo career when he released his debut solo album, "12 Play." This album yielded off Kelly's lead single as a solo artist, "Bump N' Grind." "12 Play" climbed atop the number two spot of the Billboard 200 chart. It didn't take long for the said album to be certified six times platinum in terms of sales.
R. Kelly Hits, Accomplishments, and Accolades
R. Kelly's sophomore self-titled album was out in 1995. "R. Kelly" reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart, and was the source of three of the singles that reached the top 10 spot of the charts. Kelly's sophomore album was simultaneously certified quintuple platinum.
R. Kelly wrote and co-produced Michael Jackson's single, "You Are Not Alone" in 1995. Kelly got his first Grammy nomination for his work in this single of MJ's. R. Kelly released a song off the soundtrack of the film, "Space Jam" in 1996, "I Believe I Can Fly". This song reached the number two spot of the Billboard Hot 100, and likewise snagged the awards for Best R & B Song, Best Male R & B Vocal Performance, and Best Song Written for a Motion Picture or Television in the Grammys.

In a different, but, latest news, concerning R. Kelly, the musician's old house that he built in 1997 was reportedly reconstructed by the founding member of the music group, The Isley Brothers, and has been listed up for sale for a whopping price of $3.49 million, as per an article published on Patch.com.
