King of Soca Machel Montano released a new song called "Soul of Calypso." The song starts out describing how calypso, soca, chutney and raga were born in Trinidad and Tobago and how they are the soul of the island. Montano narrated his life as a boy who loved music and this was passed down from his family and reflected on his life as he's approaching 50 years of age.
Montano took to Instagram to announce the release of this song and that he will be performing it tomorrow Thursday January 25.
On Instagram, @Machelmontano wrote "I will be performing it tomorrow night live at the Divas Calypso Cabaret at the Little Carib Theater...Calypso is where I started and I felt a real joy composing and creating this one as I thought about the roots of soca and all of the evolving forms of our music that continue to flow from the Kaiso fountain. Calypso started with Kalinda and Cariso back in the Barrack yards and has evolved to be known around the globe!!!"
Many fans commented on both Youtube and Instagram to express their love for the song and gratitude about calypso making a comeback to the music scene.
On Instagram, @waynedark1 commented, "It's a beautiful thing to see Mr Montano taking the lead, and giving us a pure Calypso (kaiso), I would love to see the other artist doing the same."
@allisonalleyne8344 commented on Youtube, "Totally love it! Reminds me of my time in English Literature classes constructing poems and other forms of prose! A delightful journey in song! I can see you performing this with your huge grin! We wait patiently for your return with new music designed to help us really enjoy our beloved calypso/soca once more!"
Fans can expect to be hearing more calypso music from Montano as he expressed in his caption "I'm excited to keep exploring and trying my hand at penning more Kaisos like this..... Stay tuned..."
