Selena Gomez has gone on several social media breaks for the past couple of months, but every single time, she has not taken it too seriously and returned right after.
After receiving backlash during her 2024 Golden Globes appearance, the "Lose You to Love Me" singer announced that she will be taking a break from social media "for a while" to "focus on what matters."
According to reports, Gomez's most recent social media break did not even last 24 hours before she shared a video clip of herself in the kitchen with Gordon Ramsay the following day.
The clip was from the singer slash actress' cooking show "Selena + Chef," wherein different chefs come in and teach her how to cook different dishes.
For that episode, the celebrity chef taught Gomez how to make "an amazing Breakfast Burger."
Selena Gomes Faces Intense Backlash
For the past couple of months, Gomez has been in and out of social media after receiving backlash after backlash over several different topics.
One of the most prominent ones was her statement in response to the conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
"I've been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that's going on in the world. People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific," she wrote. "We need to protect ALL people, especially children, and stop the violence for good," the singer wrote in an Instagram Story.
"I'm sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can't stand by innocent people getting hurt. That's what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won't. Love, Selena."
The post garnered hate from netizens who pointed out that Gomez is one of the most followed persons on Instagram, and she failed to use her platform correctly.
The "Rare" singer's recent social media hiatus was brought about by criticisms due to her "gossiping" with Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller during the Golden Globes.
Selena Gomez Takes a Social Media Break
Gomez's social media breaks began in February 2023 when she declared "I'm too old for this" after receiving criticisms online.
"Taking a break from social media was the best decision that I've ever made for my mental health," she reportedly said in 2022.
Netizens could not help but call her out even more: "She will announce her next break in an hour."
"She really is a pathological liar."
"She didn't even make it to 24 hours I'm crying.."
"She's addicted to attention. She looks like 75% of the girls at West Covina Mall so she needs to stay on her hustle I guess."
