David Eric Grohl was born in Warren, Ohio on January 14, 1969. David started out his career in music by being the band, Nirvana's drummer, and, afterwards, as Foo Fighter's frontman. At three years old, Grohl moved from Ohio to Virginia, as per Biography.com. David's parents are a journalist and an English teacher. After the musician's parents' divorce when he was six years old, David lived with his mother and older sister, Lisa.

At a young age, David began to show his interest and passion in music by playing the guitar. At the tender age of 10, Grohl created the H.G. Hancock band with a friend. Soon thereafter, David's cousin exposed him to punk rock music. When he reached high school, David played with a couple of punk bands. Grohl eventually dropped out of high school in his junior year, and at that time, he became a member of the Washington, D.C.-based rock band, Scream.

Dave Grohl Music Career Beginnings, Nirvana, + Foo Fighters

Due to having had a couple of major music connections at some point in time, Dave Grohl broke into the music industry by initially becoming a drummer for the band, Nirvana. After his stint with Nirvana, Grohl created the band, Foo Fighters. David played the role of the entire latter band's musician in the creation of music materials for the Foo Fighters' 1995 self-titled debut album, in which Grohl played majority of the instruments by singing the vocals in this album's songs, and injecting some of the songs he had written, as well, while he was still Nirvana's member.

Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters Hits, Accomplishments, and Accolades

The hits, "This is a Call", "I'll Stick Around", and "Big Me" were the songs yielded off Foo Fighters' self-titled debut album. The first Foo Fighters' album that bears their name as a band was called, "The Colour and the Shape" (1997). "The Colour and the Shape" reached the top ten of the of the album charts, and yielded songs, "Monkey Wrench," "Everlong," and "My Hero."

The Foo Fighters eventually won a Grammy award for Best Rock Album in 2000 for their 1999 album, "There is Nothing Left to Lose" and a Grammy award for Best Short Form Music Video for the official music video for the band's song, "Learn to Fly" during the same year.

The Creation Behind the Song, 'Marigold'

"Marigold" was a song that David created under a pseudonym, "Late!" on his cassette-only release, "Pocketwatch" a year prior to Nirvana releasing the song. When David offered Nirvana to record this song, "Marigold" became the only song that Nirvana recorded with the Foo Fighters frontman as the lead singer, as per American Songwriter.
