During the In Memoriam section of the 2024 Emmy Awards, the late Matthew Perry received a special homage. Charlie Puth performed the 2015 song "I'll See You Again," which he co-wrote with Wiz Khalifa as a tribute to the late Paul Walker and which can be heard on the Furious 7 soundtrack.

The War and Treaty joined Puth for an In Memoriam performance, but they had a big surprise in store. They abruptly transitioned into a more heartfelt version of The Rembrandts' "I'll Be There For You," the Friends theme song, near the song's conclusion.

This happened after Jennifer Aniston implored fans to honor his life at the Critics Choice Awards.

The audience erupted in cheers as they concluded the chorus and a video tribute to Perry, who died in October at the age of 54, appeared on screen.

After that, Perry's picture was included in a collage featuring every person featured in the homage, which had started with a salute to Norman Lear, another TV icon.

Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers, two of the biggest stars of Lear's groundbreaking series All in the Family, opened the episode with a recreation of the Bunker family house.

Before showcasing Norman Lear's memorial picture, the scene moved to a photo of his famous white hat. Actor Adan Canto was among those honored during the section. He died of appendix cancer barely a week ago at the age of 42.

Acclaimed actors like Mark Margolis from Breaking Bad and Annie Wersching from 24 were also present, including Richard Roundtree, the star of Shaft.

Applause was also shown for Richard Belzer (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us), Treat Williams (Everwood), Angus Cloud (Euphoria), and Angela Lansbury (Murder She Wrote) and Stephen 'tWitch' Boss (Ellen). Lance Reddick, Suzanne Somers, Paul Reubens, Kirstie Alley, Andre Braugher, Alan Arkin, Jim Brown, David McCallum, Len Goodman, Cindy Williams, Harry Belafonte, Bob Barker, Paul Reubens, and Barbara Walters were among the others recognized.

Social media users responded to the piece in a number of ways, with many still in mourning for Perry.
