One of the memes best associated with Dua Lipa was a comment left on her "New Rules" performance at the 2018 Brits Awards in YouTube; the user criticized the singer for making no effort in her performance.

"I love her lack of energy, go girl give us nothing," a netizen wrote; the comment went viral and became a meme--it also, of course, reached the "Future Nostalgia" hitmaker herself.

"It's one thing when people are mean about you, but you know that you did your best," Lipa told Vanity Fair. "But it's another thing when people are mean about you and you know that you actually haven't had the opportunity to be the best because you've spread yourself so thinly in trying to do everything at once."

Elsehwere in her interview, the "Love Again" singer described the comment as "hurtful," "I found it really painful because I was like, 'I'm finally getting to do something that I love to do, and I'm being shut down, that I just can't seem to do anything right.'"

Dua Lipa Rises Above the Hate, Improves Performances

It has been several years since 2018, and if there is one thing that netizens have noticed, it is that Lipa is hardly the same person who was onstage at the Brits Awards performing "New Rules."

The singer also explained that she was exhausted with all the promoting that was happening behind the scenes for her 2017 debut album, "Dua Lipa."

"It's always so easy with social media to get caught up in a negative spiral or people being mean, telling you what they think about you without really knowing you at all," Lipa added.

I just wanted to make sure that this time around, I was very much in control of the fact that I'm going to do the music, then I'm going to rehearse. And then when I come in and I do the performances, they're all going to be amazing. I'm going to prove to people that I can do this and that I'm here to stay."

Netizens Praise Dua Lipa's Live Performances

According to reports, netizens could not help but notice the improvement in Lipa's live performances and stage presence throughout the years.

"She went from go girl give us nothing to giving us one of the best performances on the Grammys, that's artistic growth," one even remarked.

The "Houdini" singer was announced as one of the performers at the upcoming 2024 Grammy Awards, along with Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish.
